Maryse Bastié

Maryse Bastié (1898-1952) became interested in aviation when she married a World War One pilot. He died in a crash in 1926; undaunted, she turned to aerobatics to earn money. She set a number of flying records in the 1930s, and eventually rose to the rank of Captain in the French air force. Tragically, she died in a plane crash.
