I guess that the modern way to do this is to make an announcement on LinkedIn.
I looked up Murray T. Bowie in the Toronto city directories, and discovered that the 1931 directory did not have his latest job update. It still listed him at Matthews and Company, with his home at 30 Eastbourne Avenue. The 1932 directory listed him at his new employer, but listed him as T. Murray Bowie; only Mr. Bowie and the compilers of the city directory would know why. Later directories reverted to the Murray T. Bowie handle.
Mr. Bowie never moved or changed jobs again. The 1950 directory listed him once again as T. Murray Bowie, still at Macrae & Co., and still living at 30 Eastbourne. The 1951 directory lists his widow, Mary, at that home address.
30 Eastbourne Avenue is a respectable-looking house in North Toronto; it appears not to have changed much since Mr. Bowie's day.
By the way, it's probably not true that Murray Bowie's real name was Murray Jones. (The 1931 directory lists two people named David Bowie: a caretaker at Victoria College, and a houseman at Burwash Hall. The 1951 directory lists just one: a packer for Grand and Toy.)
