George Breakston

Toronto Daily Star, October 28 1933

George Breakston (1920-1973) was actually 13, not 11, at the time of this photograph; this appears to have been a deception put forward by the movie studio that was employing him. He started his acting career in radio in 1930, appeared in his first film in 1934, and continued acting until 1942. He appeared regularly as "Beezy" in the Andy Hardy film series.

During the Second World War, Breakston served as a photographer in the Pacific theatre of war. After the war, he became an independent producer and director, filming movies in Japan, Kenya, and Yugoslavia, among other locations. He passed away in France, but I could not find out why he died so young.

The movie Paul Street Boys was eventually renamed No Greater Glory. It was an allegorical anti-war film that almost exclusively featured child actors.

Created November 11, 2025.
