The Hall-Mills murder case was the murder of Edward Wheeler Hall, a priest, and Eleanor Mills, a parishioner with which he was having an affair. They were killed on September 14, 1922, in Franklin Township, New Jersey. The murder case received a tremendous amount of nationwide publicity.
In 1926, Hall's wife and two of her brothers were tried for murder and acquitted; their cousin asked to be tried separately and was never put on trial. The murders were never solved.
I couldn't find any reference to Elwin Allen, Oklahoma convict, anywhere on the internet. Given that he was in Oklahoma and the murders were in New Jersey, the authorities were almost certainly justified in disbelieving Mr. Allen's claim.
