Pearl Foley

Toronto Daily Star, October 15 1938

The Canadian Early Women Writers Database website has an entry on Pearl Foley (1888-1953). The Yellow Circle, published in 1937, was the last novel that she was able to complete. When she passed away, she left another novel, Angel In The Sun, unfinished. Writing didn't make her rich: the Canadian Writers' Foundation helped her during her final illness and paid her funeral expenses.

In my searches, I found a New York Times article that mentioned The Yellow Circle and a bookseller who was offering her 1929 novel, The Octagon Crystal, for sale. The 1939 Toronto city directory lists Pearl Foley as working as a clerk at Eaton's; the 1940 directory also lists her, but the 1941 directory does not. Other directories have listings for a Pearl B. C. Foley; she was born Charlotte Beatrix Foley, so this might or might not have been her.
