Arthur Heming (1870-1940) was nicknamed "The Chronicler of the North". Besides painting Canada's northland, he wrote essays and three novels about it.
Interestingly enough, he was colour-blind or believed he was, so he painted mostly in black, white, and yellow. Later in life, another artist told him that he was no longer colour-blind, so he widened his choice of colours.
The Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Cowley Abbott firm of art auctioneers have biographies of him.
