Here's a photograph of the brother of the famous singer Harry Lauder:
Searches revealed a few things about Matt Lauder:
- He was two years younger than his famous older brother - they were the first two of seven children.
- He and Harry married sisters: Harry married the former Ann Vallance in 1891 while he was still a miner, while Matt married Ann's sister Catherine six months later.
- And, lastly, the sad discovery that Matt passed away less than six months after the photo above was taken - he died on April 20 1933 in Los Angeles.
Harry Lauder (1870-1950) worked for ten years as a coal miner in his native Scotland before becoming a successful singer. By 1911, he had sold a million records and was the highest-paid performer in the world. He was knighted in 1919 for his fund-raising efforts during the First World War.
