Betty Nuthall

Betty Nuthall (1911-1983) made the world's women's top ten ranking in tennis in 1927, at the age of 16, after reaching the finals of the women's singles event at the United States National Championships. In this final, she served underhand.

Ms. Nuthall was not able to defend the women's singles crown that she won in the 1930 U.S. National Championships, but she did make it to the semi-finals. She earned four major titles in doubles and four in mixed doubles between 1929 and 1933. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1977.
