Pete Rasmus

Toronto Daily Star, June 17 1929

It turned out that Pete Rasmus (1906-1975) had not actually set a world record with his discus throw - or, rather, he had technically done so for a short period of time. At the time of his throw, the world record had been beaten by a fellow competitor, Stanford's Eric Krenz. But Krenz's record had not yet been officially ratified at the time of Rasmus's throw. It eventually was, and Rasmus lost his record.

Not that much seems to have happened to Rasmus after this. He attempted to qualify for the 1932 Olympic Games but failed. Krenz didn't compete in the 1932 Games either due to a tragedy: he drowned in 1931 when swimming in Lake Tahoe after suffering either a heart attack or cramps.
