Eleanor Raymond
Toronto Daily Star, August 7 1935

I could find very little on Eleanor Raymond, other than that she may have passed away in 1990, but I found quite a lot on her husband-to-be: he was Bill Veeck (1914-1996). Among other things, he:
- Owned the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago White Sox;
- Was the first owner to integrate the American League;
- Lost part of his leg in World War II, which resulted in him being fitted with a wooden leg that he used as an ashtray;
- Attempted to buy the Philadelphia Phillies in 1943, planning to stock the team with Negro League players (though some sources say this never happened).
He co-wrote an autobiography entitled Veeck As In Wreck that described his rather interesting life. He and Eleanor Veeck divorced in 1949; he was forced to sell the Cleveland ball club to help pay for the settlement.
Created September 3, 2025.
