Ethel Shutta (1896-1976) started her career in vaudeville as a child, performing with her family. She became a regular performer on Jack Benny's radio show and toured with her husband, bandleader George Olsen, before divorcing him in 1939.
Her final performances were in the Broadway musical Follies, which ran at the Winter Garden Theatre in 1971 and 1972. This neatly bookended Ms. Shutta's Broadway career: a half-century earlier, she had appeared at the same theatre in The Passing Show of 1922.
There are a number of recordings of Ms. Shutta on YouTube, many of which are with her ex-husband's band. For example, she provides the vocal refrain on "There's Nothing The Matter With Me" (1932).
Edythe Shuttleworth, Ms. Shutta's lunch companion, is also listed on this site.
