Oswald J. Smith (1889-1986) was a pastor and evangelist. He resigned from the Presbyterian Church shortly after the First World War. In 1928, at about the time of the article above, he returned to Toronto and founded The Peoples Church. He wrote 35 books, including Give Ye Them To Eat (1918) and The Cry Of The World (1959).
In 1959, he turned over leadership of his church to his son, Paul B. Smith. He lived for over a quarter-century after that, and for nearly 60 years after the above article. The Peoples Church still exists - it is located near Sheppard and Bayview in North York.
