Dorothy Stone (1905-1974) was the daughter of two performers; they had appeared together in a production of The Wizard of Oz and therefore decided to name their child Dorothy. Her mother, actress Allene Crater, discouraged her from entering show business; nonetheless, she became a performer early in life. In 1923, she appeared on Broadway with her father and was critically acclaimed. In 1928, she appeared in Three Cheers, in which Rogers substituted for her father as described in the caption above.
Ms. Stone married Charles Collins, an actor who was her regular dancing partner on stage, in 1931; they appeared together in a number of stage productions. The couple remained married until she passed away. He lived to the age of 95 and was a widower for nearly a quarter of a century.
