Amherst Villiers

Toronto Daily Star, August 2 1932

Amherst Villiers (1900-1991) spent the early years of his career supercharging automobile engines (including, according to the photo caption above, a design for Malcolm Campbell). During the Second World War, he served as a ferry pilot. After the war, he moved to the United States and worked on the space program.

He was married to the former Madame Maya de Lisle Adam for long enough that an airplane engine that he developed in 1936 was named the Amherst Villiers Maya I. However, the couple eventually divorced. Mr. Villiers then married Juanita Lorraine Brown; they had two children.
