Will Ferrell is a part of my life, for reasons that are beyond my control: apparently, I look like him. I didn't see the resemblance myself until, one time when I was getting my hair cut, I narrowed my eyes a bit when looking at myself in the mirror and I went, oh I see.
The resemblance is close enough that it has come up quite often:
These days, I get about one or two of these a year. It's to the point where, if anyone says, "Has anyone told you that you look like...", I know what's coming. I haven't had one of them yet this year, but the year is young.
One other coincidence: my favourite British soccer team is Leeds United - when I discovered soccer in about 1991, I watched one of their matches and, like a baby duck being imprinted or something, became a supporter. (It's been a long strange trip since then.) Recently, I learned that Will Ferrell has become a minority investor in the club. So I suspect that if I ever went to Elland Road again (I went there in 1991), it's possible that I might get mistaken for him. That would be uncomfortable for everybody concerned.
From looking Mr. Ferrell up on the internet, I've learned that he's about seven years younger than me. He's listed at 6'3", and I am a bit over 6'2", so we're about the same height; I think we're roughly the same general build. I'm not into celebrity photographs at all and, from what I've read, he isn't particularly fond of being approached for photographs (for which I can't blame him). But if I'm ever in the same room as him, I guess I will try to make it happen.
Will Ferrell also looks almost exactly like Chad Smith, the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've never been told that I look like him, which I guess indicates varying levels of fame. I would probably try to get a photo with him too. Perhaps we've all been constructed out of some sort of cosmic mold or something. We're genetic body type WCD-473, perhaps; nobody's a special snowflake.
