Ass Ponys - Astronaut

Released: 2000

I've always really liked this song. Lead singer Chuck Cleaver's voice is a bit of an acquired taste - he reminds me a bit of David Thomas of Pere Ubu - but the harmonies on this song are wonderful. But it's frustrating: I've subscribed to several different music streaming services in my lifetime, and not one of them has a version of this song that isn't unlistenable because of weird skips. I don't know whether their record company sabotaged the digital version of this song deliberately or whether there is just something about it that makes it impossible to render in certain formats. At least, thanks to YouTube, I can listen to it whenever I want.

The Ass Ponys were from Cincinnati and came together in 1988. "Astronaut" is from the album Some Stupid With A Flare Gun, released in 2000. (This album title is a song fragment from "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple.) They released a compilation album in 2005 and went on hiatus after that; Cleaver is now fronting the band Wussy.
