This is yet another song that I discovered by listening to a video collection from DJ Pierre Noll. I can honestly say that I have never heard anything like this before. I'm not sure that I exactly like it, but I'm fascinated by the concept of a song about a Gummiboot. (Though when I showed this link to friends of mine, they reacted less than positively.) The latter part of the video shows the singer actually sailing on the Gummiboot; she looks a bit nervous.
Wenche Myhre (born 1947), known as "Wencke Myhre" in Germany, was from a suburb of Oslo in Norway. Her original musical success was in her native country - in 1963, she had three songs in the Norwegian top ten at the same time. She went on to also have hit songs in Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, and has competed in the Eurovision Song Contest for both Norway and Germany.
Ms. Myhre placed five songs in the German top ten between 1966 and 1978, but "Er hat ein knallrotes Gummiboot" (which Google Translate assures me translates to "He has a bright red rubber boat") was not among them - it stalled out at #21. She appears to be still continuing with her music career - she last attempted to enter the Eurovision contest in 2009.
