Valerie Carr - When The Boys Talk About The Girls

June 1958 - Weeks On Chart: 6 - Highest Position: 29

To me, this song feels like it's at the intersection point between pre-rock "easy listening", early ballads from the rock era, and very early soul. I don't particularly want to listen to it again, but it's interesting.

Valerie Carr started her recording career in the mid-1950s before moving to Roulette Records in 1958. "When The Boys Talk About The Girls" reached #19 on the Billboard chart and also landed in the top 40 in the UK singles chart. Strictly speaking, she wasn't quite a one-hit wonder, as her 1961 recording of "I Left There Crying" reached the US top 50 (YouTube doesn't have a link to it).

She was reportedly one of Buddy Holly's favourite singers. She's still alive; she turns 89 this year.
