This is one minute and fifty-three seconds of enjoyable early rock and roll.
Shortnin' Bread is a folk song that dates to at least 1900, when author James Whitcomb Riley published it as a poem. Many many versions of it exist, including recordings by Kay Kyser and His Orchestra, the Foggy Mountain Boys, The Cramps, and The Wiggles.
Paul Chaplain was from Webster, Massachusetts. His version of "Shortnin' Bread" was a local hit only, as it made it to just #82 on the Billboard Hot 100. He recorded a couple of other singles but didn't get anywhere with them. He passed away in 1995.
