Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday

August 1972 - Weeks On Chart: 13 - Highest Position: 2

This song is bouncy and impossible to remove from your brain once it gets in there. If you haven't heard this before, listen with great caution!

Daniel Boone, born Peter Charles Green (1942-2023), was from Birmingham, England. In the 1960s, he was in a band called The Bruisers, which reached #31 on the UK charts in 1963 with "Blue Girl".

When The Bruisers broke up in 1967, Boone went solo under the name of Peter Lee Stirling before changing his name to Daniel Boone in 1971. His first single under his new name was the original version of "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast". It reached #17 on the UK singles chart and later became a hit in North America for Wayne Newton. I found this too mawkishly sentimental for my taste.

"Beautiful Sunday" reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #21 in the UK. It also reached #1 in Germany and sold over two million copies in Japan, becoming the biggest-selling single by an international artist in that country. Versions of this song were recorded in German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. Boone continued his career as a songwriter after this but with no significant success.
