This was one of the first of many earnest 1970s songs about relationships. I only made it through about 30 seconds of this, I fear.
Ronnie Dyson (1950-1990) achieved his first success when he won a lead role in the Broadway musical Hair, first performed in 1968. In this stage production, Dyson sang the lead vocal of "Aquarius", which was eventually recorded by The Fifth Dimension.
"Why Can't I Touch You?" was Dyson's first single; it reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. He later reached #28 in 1973 with "One Man Band (Plays All Alone)" and had some other R&B chart hits but did not get any more airplay in Toronto. He died young of heart failure.
