This song has lots of cheerful energy, which makes it enjoyable. It doesn't hurt that Leiber and Stoller, producers extraordinaire of Elvis and others, were behind the controls for this.
The Exciters were from Queens, New York. They were originally an all-woman group before adding one male member. "Tell Him" was their first single; it reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Future singles were less successful, including "Do-Wah-Diddy", which reached #78 and was later successfully covered by Manfred Mann as "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", who took it to #1. (The Exciters' version is awesome.)
The group continued issuing singles through 1969 and broke up in 1974. Various members of the group performed together into the late 1970s using the Exciters name.
