The Goodees - Condition Red

January 1969 - Weeks On Chart: 5 - Highest Position: 10

This is a startlingly melodramatic pop song that appears to be a cross between The Shangri-Las' "Leader Of The Pack" and late 1960s pop, with a car crash, a police siren, and a bit of psychedelic organ thrown in at the end. I'd never heard it before and I don't think I've heard anything like it ever.

The Goodees were from Memphis, Tennessee. "Condition Red" was their only charting single, reaching #46 on the Billboard Hot 100. They recorded a total of 22 songs during their career; Ace Records UK released a complete compilation of their songs in 2010.

Created April 21, 2026.
