The Impalas were a doo-wop group from Brooklyn. They were unusual because they were racially integrated - their lead singer, Joe "Speedo" Frazier, was black. He was 15 when this record hit the charts.
"Sorry (I Ran All The Way Home)" also reached #2 on the U.S. singles charts and sold over a million copies. I enjoy listening to it - if someone asked me what a typical doo-wop song sounds like, I'd probably direct them to this.
The Impalas recorded some other singles and an album before disbanding in 1961. Frazier passed away in 2014 at the age of 70.
