Horst Jankowski - A Walk In The Black Forest

June 1965 - Weeks On Chart: 7 - Highest Position: 11

My thought when I listened to this was that it was at the intersection point between easy listening and jazz. This turns out to not be surprising, as Horst Jankowski (1936-1998) produced both during his career.

"A Walk In The Black Forest" was originally released in Germany as "Eine Schwarzwaldfahrt", which Google Translate assures me translates to "A Black Forest Trip", so fair enough. It reached #1 on the U.S. easy listening chart, #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #3 on the UK singles chart. It sold over a million copies, as did the album it came from, The Genius of Jankowski.

Jankowski followed up this success with albums titled More Genius of Jankowski and Still More Genius of Jankowski, each of which was slightly less successful than its predecessor. He continued recording until his death from lung cancer in 1998.
