The Knickerbockers - Lies

January 1966 - Weeks On Chart: 10 - Highest Position: 8

As noted at the time, the vocal harmonies on this song strongly resemble those of the Beatles. Sadly, this isn't as melodious or as lyrically interesting as songs by the Fab Four - but nobody else's were.

The Knickerbockers were from Bergenfield, New Jersey. "Lies" was their third single; it reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent singles reached #46 and #94 and then it went downhill from there.

The two primary members of the group, brothers Beau and John Charles, formed a group named Lodi that was signed to Motown in 1971 but didn't achieve success. The Knickerbockers later reformed briefly in 1983 and 1990.

Created February 26, 2026.
