Liz Damon's Orient Express - 1900 Yesterday

January 1971 - Weeks On Chart: 4 - Highest Position: 16

This is basically easy listening with a bit of electric guitar in the middle. Except for the guitar, it would have fit in well in the pre-rock era.

Liz Damon's Orient Express were from Hawaii and consisted of Ms. Damon, two female backup singers, and a backing band that underwent numerous personnel changes. The Orient Express part of their name was apparently because the backing band was originally Asian.

"1900 Yesterday" was first recorded by Betty Everett (of "The Shoop Shoop Song" fame) in 1969. Liz Damon's version reached #33 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Easy Listening chart.

The group released a few more albums in the 1970s, including a comedy album titled Warning: This Album Could be Hazardous to Your Ego!. They relocated to Las Vegas, where they performed until they disbanded in the mid-1980s.
