Warner Mack - Roc-A-Chicka

November 1957 - Weeks On Chart: 6 - Highest Position: 16

This is one minute and 59 seconds of early rock'n'roll, featuring the Anita Kerr Quartet singing "roc-a-chicka" repeatedly. We're going to rock around the clock tonight, or at least around some bits of it!

Warner Mack's given name was Warner McPherson (1935-2022) and he was from Nashville. "Roc-A-Chicka" only made it to #74 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After this, Mack focused on country music and was successful at it, reaching the top 20 on the US country music chart 13 times between 1964 and 1970.

Anita Kerr (1927-2022), who was from Memphis, Tennessee, had an extensive career, starting in 1950. At one point in the late 1950s and early 1960s, every hit song out of Nashville featured either The Anita Kerr Singers or The Jordanaires (who were famous for backing Elvis's early hits).
