Johnny Maddox (1927-2018) was a ragtime pianist and music historian from Gallatin, Tennessee. He started recording for Dot Records in 1950. In 1955, his song "Crazy Otto Medley" reached #2 on the chart and sold over two million copies.
"Glad Rag Doll" was originally recorded by Ted Lewis in 1929. Maddox's version did not appear on the Billboard chart.
Maddox continued recording into the late 1960s, achieving total record sales of about 11 million. In later years, he collected antique sheet music, reportedly accumulating nearly 100,000 songs before his death.
