Al Brown's Tunetoppers - The Madison

May 1960 - Weeks On Chart: 5 - Highest Position: 18

The Ray Bryant Combo - The Madison Time

May 1960 - Weeks On Chart: 4 - Highest Position: 18

I've put these two songs together in one entry because they were basically two versions of the same song released at the same time that reached the same position on the chart.

Al Brown's Tunetoppers don't appear to have done anything else memorable. This version of "The Madison" reached #23 on the Billboard pop chart.

Ray Bryant (1931-2011) was a jazz pianist and composer from Philadelphia who started playing professionally at the age of 14 and performed and recorded into the 21st century. His version of "The Madison Time" reached #30 on the Billboard chart. John Waters, in his movie Hairspray, used Bryant's version as the soundtrack for his Madison dance scene.
