Barry Mann - Who Put The Bomp (In The Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)

August 1961 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 1

This is a clever and funny parody of classic doo-wop songs of the era, though I found the voiceover at the end a bit much.

Barry Mann only had the one hit single but he had a long and very successful career as a songwriter, mostly co-writing with his wife, Cynthia Weil, whom he married in 1961. Mann and Weil's list of recorded songs is extensive.

"Who Put The Bomp" was co-written by Mann and Gerry Goffin, another extremely successful songwriter (mostly with his first wife, Carole King). It reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Songs that Mann has written or co-written have reached the charts 98 times in the US and 53 times in the UK. He is still alive as I write this - he turned 87 earlier this month.

Created February 16, 2026.
