This is one of those earnest 1970s songs about relationships. At first, I thought it belonged in the Singer-Songwriter Wanting To Get Laid category of songs but, on reading the lyrics, it sounds like the writer is actually interested in commitment. Or maybe not. Regardless, I only lasted through 1:23 of this.
Peter McCann (1948-2023) was from Bridgeport, Connecticut. "Do You Wanna Make Love" was his only successful single release, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The B-side of the single, "Right Time of the Night", which he also wrote, had become a hit for Jennifer Warnes earlier in 1977.
McCann went on to have an extensive career as a songwriter and advocate for songwriter and publisher's recording rights. He also pushed for Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to be given the Nobel Prize for Literature because, hey, why not? He wrote a Christmas song, "One Voice", that received a letter of commendation from Pope John Paul II.
