This song was basically omnipresent in the summer of 1975 - it was played so often that it basically became part of the culture of the time. I remembered it well enough that I didn't bother listening to it again for this project.
Van McCoy (1940-1979) was a producer, singer, and songwriter. His songwriting credits include "When You're Young And In Love", which was a hit for the Marvelettes and the Flying Pickets, and "Baby I'm Yours", recorded by Barbara Lewis.
In the mid-1970s, McCoy formed The Soul City Symphony. Their recording of "The Hustle" reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over a million copies. It led to a successful album, Disco Baby. He continued working away in his chosen profession until he passed away from a heart attack in 1979.
