The Pixies Three - 442 Glenwood Avenue

February 1964 - Weeks On Chart: 9 - Highest Position: 9

I enjoyed this well enough - its sound reminded me of other "girl groups" of that era.

The Pixies Three were from Hanover, Pennsylvania. Their first successful single was "Birthday Party", released in 1963, which reached #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It didn't get airplay in Toronto and I think I agree with that decision - I found that this song got on my nerves a bit for some reason.

"442 Glenwood Avenue" did much better in Toronto than in other parts of North America, as it only reached #56 on the Hot 100. The group continued releasing singles until 1965, with decreasing success, and broke up in 1966. They got together in 1991 for their high school reunion, performing until 2010, and then reunited again in 2013.

A search on Google Maps showed that there is no 442 Glenwood Avenue in Hanover, Pennsylvania, though there is one in East Orange, New Jersey; Youngstown, Ohio; Rochester, New York; and Raleigh, North Carolina. The song wasn't that huge a hit, so residents at those addresses were hopefully not bothered too much.
