As I understand it, this is a song about a young man who has just broken up with his sweetheart and asks his parish priest for guidance, pretending that it's for his friend and not him. I couldn't finish it, but what a concept for a song. It would likely have done better had it been released earlier than 1964; by then, the British Invasion was in full force and songs like this were going out of style.
The Ramblers were a duo from New York City. "Father Sebastian" was the only single of theirs that made any inroads at all on the Billboard charts, reaching #86 on the Billboard Hot 100. They released a total of four singles in their career.
Their last single, released at Christmas time in 1964, was "Surfin' Santa". This was obviously an attempt to cash in on the surfing craze. It didn't succeed but, as the saying goes, you miss 100% of the shots that you do not attempt.
