This is Tex-Mex easy listening. It's pleasant enough but has nothing whatsoever to do with rock and roll.
Rene & Rene (or, to use their Spanish name, René y René) were two men named René from Laredo, Texas. They first reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964 with "Angelito", which reached #43 but did not get airplay in Toronto. "Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero", which translates as "the more I love you", did better, reaching #14 on the Billboard chart. It made it to #15 nationally in Canada, so it was more popular in Toronto than elsewhere in the country.
The two Renés kept plugging away after that without significant success. René Herrera passed away in 2005 at the age of 70. René Ornelas is still alive as I write this; he turns 90 this August.
