Russ Hamilton - Rainbow

September 1957 - Weeks On Chart: 12 - Highest Position: 4

This is clearly from the pre-rock era and isn't really my thing. But I enjoyed listening to the background singers.

Russ Hamilton (1932-2008) was from Liverpool. He was the first recording artist from that city to reach the charts in the United States, pre-dating the Beatles by several years.

"Rainbow" reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies. In Britain, "Rainbow" was the B-side of "We Will Make Love", which reached #2 in the UK singles chart. The followup, "Wedding Ring", made it to the top 20 in Britain but did not chart in North America. Hamilton released singles regularly up until 1960 and recorded in Nashville after that but did not achieve any further chart success.

Created April 25, 2026.
