Robert Knight - Everlasting Love

November 1967 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 8

"Everlasting Love" is a wonderful song, which is why it has been a hit so many times: besides this version, there were versions by Carl Carlton in 1974, Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet in 1981, and Gloria Estefan in 1995. U2 has also covered it.

Robert Knight (1940-2017) was born Robert Peebles in Franklin, Tennessee. He started his recording career as a member of The Paramounts, who had an R&B hit single in 1961 with "Free Me". His version of "Everlasting Love" reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Knight reached #10 in the UK in 1973 with "Love on a Mountain Top" but didn't chart significantly again in North America. He released his last single in 1976. Later in life, he worked at Vanderbilt University as a chemistry teacher, lab technician, and member of the grounds crew. Hey, it's a living.
