This is a wonderful bit of early lo-fi rockabilly. It's a bit like Buddy Holly without seeming like it's copying him.
Robin Luke was 16 years old and living in Honolulu when he recorded "Susie Darlin'". It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #23 on the UK singles chart and sold over a million copies. He released nine more singles after this, none of which were successful.
Luke retired from the music business in 1965. He earned a Ph.D. in business administration and marketing and became a university professor. He was also enshrined in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, basically thanks to one good song. He's still alive; he turns 84 next month.
