Senator Bobby - Wild Thing

February 1967 - Weeks On Chart: 5 - Highest Position: 33

This is an impersonation of Senator Robert Kennedy singing "Wild Thing". It's obviously a product of its time.

"Senator Bobby" was actually Bill Minkin (1941-2026), who was a member of the Hardly-Worthit Players comedy troupe. Their version of "Wild Thing" reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The flip side was a recording of "Senator Everett McKinley" performing the same song; this was intended to be an impression of Senator Everett Dirksen, a prominent Republican.

Minkin, as Senator Bobby and Senator McKinley, recorded a cover version of Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" later in 1967. His career as a Robert Kennedy impersonator came to an abrupt end on June 6, 1968, when Kennedy was assassinated.

In later life, Minkin was the host of the King Biscuit Flower Hour, a syndicated radio program of rock music concerts.

Created August 18, 2026.
