Sunny & The Sunglows - Talk To Me

November 1963 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 13

I found this song fascinating - the violins and the arrangement are typical of the pre-rock era, but the rhythm was more of an early rock sound.

Sunny & The Sunglows were from Palacios, Texas. All but one of the group were Hispanic, which influenced many of their songs, though I didn't see any evidence of it here.

"Talk To Me" sounds more like it belongs in 1958 than 1963, which is not surprising, as it is a remake of a 1958 song by Little Willie John, "Talk To Me, Talk To Me", with the title cut in half for convenience. Sunny & The Sunglows' version of the song was successful on several charts, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and #12 on the R&B chart.

Shortly after this release, the group moved to San Antonio, Texas, and renamed themselves Sunny & The Sunliners. They continued recording and releasing up until 1981 without further success.

Created April 10, 2026.
