Mitchell Torok - Caribbean

September 1959 - Weeks On Chart: 11 - Highest Position: 4

There are some old-style country music songs that I like. Sadly, this is not one of them.

Mitchell Torok (1929-2017) originally recorded "Caribbean" in 1953; it reached #1 on the US country chart at that time. When it was re-released in 1959, it reached #27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Torok had previously reached #26 on the Hot 100 in 1957 with "Pledge of Love".

In later years, Torok worked as a songwriter, writing with Jim Reeves and with his wife, Gail Redd. He was also an artist: he created a 110-foot mural titled "The History of the Grand Ol' Opry", which was displayed in the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Opry. He also created "Elvis-a-Rama", a 12 foot by 125 foot mural, which has been shown in a variety of places and has been signed by over 50,000 Elvis fans.

Created February 23, 2026.
