The Casinos - Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye

January 1967 - Weeks On Chart: 8 - Highest Position: 14

I didn't think much of this song as I was listening to it but kept it on as I was starting to research it. When it got to the part of the chorus where the group sings "If it don't work out", I realized that I had heard this song long, long ago but was not sure when. I don't particularly love the song now that I have heard it again but I love that bit - it's connected to long-forgotten memories.

The Casinos were a doo-wop group from Cincinnati, Ohio. "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" was written by John D. Loudermilk, who also wrote four other songs featured on this website, "Angela Jones", "Indian Reservation", "Talk Back Trembling Lips", and "Torture". The Casinos' version of this song reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Casinos didn't have any further success after this. Frontman Gene Hughes went on to become a country music producer. Another group member, Bob Armstrong, wound up in charge of installing lights on suspension bridges, including the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinnati.
