This song starts off with the same melody that is used to sing the children's taunt of "Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah nyah nyah". It then segues into the theme of a boy and girl skipping school and, um, getting busy. This was unusually direct for its time, which led to some stations pulling it off the air.
Floyd Robinson (1932-2016) was from Nashville. "Makin' Love" was his only hit, reaching #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the UK singles chart. Robinson was Jesse Lee Turner's cousin; he wrote Turner's hit single, "The Little Space Girl".
Robinson went on to produce music for children with a religious theme, recording albums in the mid-1970s as "Charlie the Hamster", "Ricky the Cricket", and "Woody Woodchuck". He also wrote a guitar instruction manual in the early 1990s. When not doing musical things, he owned a used car dealership.
